Anywhere but Here is a series of staged images that depict myself on a fantastical journey in a theatrical style. Made during the second national UK lockdown, I channelled my frustration into an ambitious fast paced project in which I used story boarding, set building, styling and image taking to deal with the concept of escapism. Anywhere but Here attempts to comfort the scared adult through connecting to a naive inner child, armed with only pop culture stimuli and a relentless ability to deny reality. The tone of the photographs are romantic, they present an idealistic version of reality where, it is not life-threateningly cold in the Arctic so only a nice coat is necessary, and card games with fantastical creatures are a common occurrence. My images are not grounded in reality but snippets of what a better, or at least more exciting, life could be.
